What is SEO?

SEO stand for "search engine optimization" and is the process of getting your website, or any web page for that matter, ranked as high as possible on major search engines such as Google. By doing so you will get more exposure and views to your website. This will of course lead to more sales and business from your online presence. It is important to understand a website with no traffic is serving no purpose. There is a common misconception that just having a website is sufficient, this is not the case. With SEO there are two main sides of the coin, on-site SEO, and off-site SEO, we take care of both.

What is On-Site SEO?

On-site SEO is making sure all the aspects of the website or web page itself is as optimized as possible to rank well on the search engines. This includes a vast array of different properties of your site. To start with a website should have proper META tags for the title, keywords, and description. This clearly states to a search engine and it's "crawlers" or "bots" what the site is about. The next item to look at with on-site SEO is the content itself on the website. It is very important the the content is enough in quantity, quality and readable, unique and not copied, and relevant to the website. The remaining on-site factors include such things as ALT tags in images, proper interlinking of pages, and using tags such as STRONG to denote relevant keywords.

What is Off-Site SEO?

Off-site SEO involves all of the activities outside of your website or page itself to help rank it better in the search engine. This type of search engine optimization largely revolves around backlink building. Backlinks are any links that originate from a different domain than your own and point to your domain. Backlinks play a very large role in ranking a website or page. These backlinks can and should come from a wide variety of sources that include blogs, forums, relevant websites, and social media outlets. In general the links themselves and the content around the link should be related to your site content.

What Does This All Mean?

SEO and internet marketing can be a very daunting task for many people. The gaming field is always changing and there is an all out, non stop effort, to do what needs to be done to get websites ranked while keeping to quality "white hat" methods. This high level of competition is what we live for and will work hard to make sure your site is as competitive as can be.

The Latest Google Update and What It Means

The beginning of this March brought a lot of changes to how we all need to do SEO and link building.  Google recently changed their ranking algorithms and proactively set their sights on websites that were using unnatural link building techniques.  The biggest way that they were able to find these sites and the networks they were using for backlinks was looking at how they were over using and over optimizing particular anchor texts and keywords.

The important thing to reiterate here is how important having a balanced and varied link profile is.  Sites that were penalized and affected by this change were not using the best practices of link building, in particular variety.  That includes variety in many ways.  For one the type of links that were being used.  Many companies and people were riding the private blog network train due to how effective it was.  When the change hit these were affected the most.  That is why using a variety of link types and link networks is so important to avoid this.  The other way to ensure variety in your link building is to use many different anchor texts for your links.  Don't just rely on the particular keywords you are trying to rank.  Make sure to link build to many variations including just the URL of your site.  Also focus links on multiple pages, not just your homepage or landing pages, do both.

Although many people were hurt by the recent Google changes the fact is the best way to protect yourself in the future is to keep it varied and by doing so keep it natural.  Finding a specific method or strategy and only doing that is going to hurt you in the long run.  When that "loophole" persay is targeted by Google all the work done is down the drain.
